Spring Spruce Up: Colorful Labels

How was your weekend? It was a long weekend for us and we had lovely weather, which meant more Spring projects around here!

I painted another door in Celebration Blue, finished up a project for our Entry Way and planted some flowers. My little guy also got to plant his first flower.

That is his "squeeze the pail to loosen up the dirt" face.

One not-so-fun part of Spring is Spring Cleaning. But as much as I'm not a fan of the cleaning part, I do love to organize. You can ask Mike how many times I've reorganized our linen closet. He gets so happy (heavy sarcasm) when I decide to reorganize the linen closet... again.

Anywho, the cherry on top of the organizing ice cream is pretty labels. So, in working on my Entry Way, I had to include some functional, and pretty, labels.

I was inspired by this mudroom with colorful wooden tags used as labels.

The process was fairly simple, but it did require a few specific items that I had on hand. When shopping at the same semi-annual consignment sale where I bought my faux marquee letters, I came across a bag of some unfinished wood ovals for less than a couple bucks. With some acyrlic paint, they got a nice coat of navy.

Using Photoshop, I created some white silhouettes on a navy background. I chose the background color in Photoshop to try to match the painted ovals. It's not perfect, but close enough for me. The silhouettes represented some of the items that we'll be keeping in our entry, as well as labels for each coat hook.

I printed the labels out on plain white cardstock and used an oval cutting tool (like this one) to cut them out. The shape didn't match perfectly, so I trimmed them a bit to fit the wooden ovals. A few coats of Mod Podge holds the labels in place and protects them from damage.

After adding some simple cream yarn with hot glue, they are hanging in place.

Each family member gets their own hook for coats and bags.

We have 4 coat hooks, and 3 family members, so this last hook is designated for our "Traveling to Louisville" tote. Since we go back and forth between Louisville and Lexington so often, we keep this woven tote on hand for items that will need to go with us on our next trip.

This little tin is simply named "stuff" since it will hold miscellaneous items as the seasons change.

Such a simple Spring Spruce Up -- and it makes spring organizing that much more fun.
