On Monday I shared my DIY Wooden Spoon Herb Markers and you got a glimpse of my blue herb planters too.
We had these faux-stone {actually plastic} planters leftover from the previous owners. Instead of tossing them, we kept them around, thinking a coat of spray paint might fix 'em up.
And now I love 'em.
They are the perfect container for the herbs that we picked up at the Bluegrass Farmers Market last week. Since we are beginners at gardening, I'm so glad we got the herbs at the Farmer's Market. The farmer explained how to care for each herb and gave us lots of helpful tips, like:
- they can all be planted together in a container, but put them in the ground for the winter {yes, many of them are perennials!}
- most of them are very hardy {phew} -- pretty much weeds that you can eat
- the basil is sensitive to the cold, so keep it inside until the soil can remain over 60 degrees {we have it in the little clay pot for now, so we can move it indoors on cooler nights}
You may have noticed that the clay pot with the basil has gotten a paint makeover too. It was inspired by the DIY Potted Herb Favors (#3) from The Sweetest Occasion.
We're definitely making progress on our patio makeover {UPDATE: You can find the completed Patio Reveal here}. I'm just loving the updates...
... and I've already used sweet basil in cooking up some marinara. Yummy.
