DIY Window Seat: Part 1

Craftivity Designs | August 19, 2013 | 20 Comments so far
Several weeks ago I shared our Home Tour, which included the Living Room -- and a project I shared a sneak peak of in this post -- the Window Seat.

I'm going to give you a little background info today and then Mike {my hubby} will be back on Thursday with a "guest-post" of sorts to share what we learned while DIY-ing our own Window Seat {that is, if he can handle the pressure of his blogging debut, haha}. **UPDATE: Find the tutorial here.**

First off, here is the before.

Fresh and bright, right?

When we moved in we weren't crazy about the idea of using that media cabinet thing and blocking our single living room window with a giant TV. Or, you know, with a boom box.

Over the years, our living room got a lot of lightening up. We started by ripping out the media cabinet and painting the built-in shelves a creamy white.

Already a million, zillion times better!

Over the next couple years we updated the floors with hardwood, purchased an area rug, added some window treatments and covered the area under the window with beadboard.

Then, down in the garage, this was happening...

Let's call it Operation Window Seat, which was more about calculated technique than speed.

Except that we didn't exactly have a technique... or wood plans... or instructions. We just figured it out along the way.

So when I say it was about calculated technique -- I really mean we were calculating what the technique should be... over a period of about 3 years.

But it turned out to be such a beauty. So worth it.

Needless to say, it wasn't the easiest or quickest project we've ever tackled -- but that's partly because it was our first real DIY. We learned a lot and I can't wait to let Mike share some tips with you on Thursday. Have a great Monday! **UPDATE: Find the tutorial here.**

Anyone else take years to complete a project? If so, what was it and how did it turn out?
