Bows & Bow Ties Shower: The Decorations

Over the past few weeks, I have been sharing all about the double baby shower that mom and I threw for my two sister-in-laws. One is expecting a boy, and the other is expecting a girl and the food, games and decor all fit our theme, Bows and Bow Ties.  Since the mom-to-be of the little girl isn't into typical "girly" colors we chose a yellow, blue and green color scheme.

We hosted the shower at a church and greeted the guests with a chalkboard sign directing them where to go in the building. The sign also included polka dot balloons and our shower slogan, "Twice as much to love, two blessings from above."

Since we were celebrating two sweet babies, we made these cute felt bows & bow ties to use throughout the room.  You'll see the yellow bows showing up around the baby girl's decorations and the blue bow ties with the baby boy decor.  I'll share more next week about how we created these.

We also created our own poof balls to hang from the ceiling.  We followed the directions on this YouTube video and used blue and yellow tissue paper and baker's twine.

We used several versions of bunting and banners to decorate with -- I will be sharing more next week about how to make them. To decorate the food tables, we hung up yellow and blue streamers on the wall and added burlap table runners. For more details on the food we served, go here.

As I mentioned last week, we had guests complete wish cards when they arrived. An IKEA frame sat on the Wish Card table with directions along with a glass apothecary jar with blue ink pens.  If you'd like some Bow and Bow Tie graphics for your baby shower, go here.

I used mini chalkboards to label which cards were for baby Christopher and which ones were for baby Beatrice.  Each chalkboard also received a felt bow or bow tie to jazz it up.  To get your own free printable wish cards, go here.

A simple and always class centerpiece for any party if flowers.  We used white flowers in mason jars wrapped with strips of burlap and colorful ribbon.

Each place setting included a napkin and utensils wrapped together with polka dot and chevron ribbon to look like a bow tie.

Since there were going to be gifts for both of the mommies-to-be, we created two gift tables -- one decorated in blue and one in yellow.  Each gift table was decorated using old windows that I purchased at yard sale when I was in high school (I claim them as my first decorating project).  We used printed scrapbooking paper in coordinating colors to cover the backs of the windows and then added a paper mache initial hung with burlap ribbon.  For each table, I also created a silhouette of a boy and girl created from scrapbook paper, cardstock, and a white picture frame.

For each of the gift tables, we used a stuffed animal to decorate the card boxes. For the baby boy table, we used an antique Winnie the Pooh bear with a added chevron ribbon bow tie. On the baby girl's table, we used a sweet little lamb that came with a plaid bow on it.  We used a basket and a small yellow plate box to house the cards given from guests.

Next to the gift tables, each mom-to-be had a chair with matching ribbon in yellow polka dots and blue chevron.

I had a lot fun decorating for this event.  I love that mom and I were able to use handmade decorations that made the shower special and unique.  Can't wait to share more next week on the banners that we used in the decorations. Have a wonderful day!
