How was your weekend? I love the small projects Erica shares each Friday and this weekend project was just like many of those... simple, colorful and a great use of items I had on hand.
If you've been around for awhile you know that Mike and I are in the middle of renovating our bathroom. We started with
removing lots of wallpaper,
fixing damaged walls and
replacing the floors. This Wednesday our vanity top will be installed... so we are finally at the point where I can tackle some of the fun projects - like this little stool!
Supplies
Black Vinyl // Amazon //
12"x40' Roll {there are smaller sizes available, but I bought this large roll because it was the best bang for my buck and I use it for many different projects}
Wooden Stool // I bought mine years ago, but here is a
similar version on Amazon
I love the 8oz Valspar Paint samples from Lowes -- just recently I
refinished a mirror in this same soft green color.
Tip: Often you can find coupons for a free Valspar Paint sample in magazines like BHG.
It took two coats of Belle Grove Sorbet for good coverage. Even though the stool was originally unfinished wood, it had been painted red to coordinate with the basement in or last home.
That green is definitely a softer color! As much as I like red in other spaces, I've realized it's just not a color I love for my home {at least not in the main living areas, I did like red as an accent in my
son's nursery}. This minty green is much more my style.
To give the stool a little bit of personality I cut a swiss cross out of black vinyl. The vinyl is AWESOME for so many projects because you can essentially make your own decals, stencils or even chalkboard style labels.
I've always liked the graphic shape of the swiss cross and even considered something
like this for our shower curtain; but I was afraid that
{1} I might tire of it quickly and
{2} it would become the focal point of the room.
Instead, this little bath stool was the perfect spot for that graphic punch -- without being too bold.
And, yep, there's a sneak peak of the progress in our bathroom. Can't wait to show you more!!!
Have you refurbished any little stools around your home?
