No-sew, fleece "tie" blankets like this one are a popular -- and super simple -- DIY gift idea. Each year at a Women's Retreat I attend, they make these soft blankets as a gift for families in need.
One of the first steps in preparing these blankets is cutting the corners out of two pieces of fleece, leaving 8 scrap squares for every blanket. My mom had helped with this project and had a stack of fleece squares and this little idea popped in my head...
Since the fleece scraps were already cut into squares, I knew I could cut them in half to make two triangles.
If they needed some trimming, I'd do that as well, just to make sure they all had nice clean lines and didn't look lopsided.
I grabbed a roll of ribbon leftover from my wedding and pinned each of the triangles to it. My mom, the seamstress, sewed them together and this little garland was ready to go.
Since it was all made from scraps -- it was totally free! Not to mention, I used some things that otherwise would just be collecting dust and taking up space.
The green and white is great, because it's not particularly seasonal. I added a little red pom-pom trim over it {leftover from the nursery makeover} and it creates a Christmas Garland.
But this green and white garland would have worked just as well, paired with blues, for our little guy's Ball-Themed 2nd Birthday this past spring {so don't be surprised if you see it show up for Birthday #3!}.
What have you made from your fabric scraps?
